A B O U T

New Orleans-born Armande Alexandra is a multidisciplinary artist from New Orleans, Louisiana specializing in fashion design, creative direction, and art direction.

Her inspiration derives from her intuitive nature and attention to sensual details, driving her feminine approach to interconnected design and cultural storytelling.

Armande’s first solo project as Lead Fashion Designer and Creative Director of her eponymous holistic womenswear brand, ARMANDE, was founded in 2019 with a focus on a nostalgic and cultured redesign of classic silhouettes. ARMANDE was created as a catalyst to deconstruct the ways in which we consider the female body and its relationship to femininity.

Rooted in the philosophy that emotion and design are interrelated, and therefore ever-changing, Armande believes in the importance of garments that are functional, integrative, and can be converted as often as one’s mood.

DEMYSTIFIED, 2021

ARMANDE’s sophomore collection DEMYSTIFIED builds upon the core of their original ideology, while ejecting more emotion. Where a strictly black and ivory color palette was first debuted with the purpose of wearability, it now takes on a more symbolic meaning.

Black is as simple as it is deeply complex, having many variations and hues, which can be observed when another black form is placed next to it. Within this ambiguity comes clarity; black becomes specific when placed alongside other similar versions of itself, and takes on other forms when placed next to any other color.

DEMYSTIFIED pauses to reflect on the depth of blackness—soulful, whimsical, powerful, inflicted, joyful, black. When paired with black, it transforms into a limitless rainbow of multifaceted hues, and when paired with white, it becomes richer, deeper and more pronounced.

Black isn't a primary, secondary, or tertiary color. In fact, black isn't on the color wheel because it isn't considered a singular color, but all colors. Black is intricate, and has the depth to absorb all moods, emotions and situations — everything a person is now and will ever be. ARMANDE showcases this limitless capacity and invites you to experience it monochromatically.

Similarly, the construction of each garment is made with a less, but better approach — less isn’t simple, it is careful, considered, and concentrated on the design. It allows us to view the details, exploring them more meaningfully, deeper and blacker.

DEMYSTIFIED explores duality, specifically of the extroverted introvert, evoking a sense of bold confidence in feeling at home in your body.

Creative Director and Designer Armande Alexandra defines comfort as an inherent force, utilized as a tool for advancement versus familiarity-based stagnancy, creating the “confident comfort zone”.

Armande believes in acknowledging comfort’s energetic presence, watering it, and allowing it to flourish into newness.

In essence, DEMYSTIFIED is rooted in setting aside what you think you know to wholeheartedly explore what it is you don’t know.

THE ART OF LAZY, 2019

ARMANDE’s debut capsule collection The Art of Lazy is an unconventional homage to designer Armande Alexandra’s hometown, New Orleans, Louisiana, along with her interest in exploring the layers and juxtaposition of individuality and society.

With references of French colonialism in New Orleans, the city’s unique street culture of the nineties, and Armande’s lackadaisical approach discovered during these years, The Art of Lazy is intended to be mixed and matched, lived in and well-worn without much effort.
